Rooms
The Chen offers 100 suites decorated with original artworks by Chinese-born Australian artist Zhong Chen. Each room includes a flat-screen TV, a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, free WiFi, a work desk, tea and coffee facilities, and Art Series bedding. Some rooms have private balconies. The rooms are soundproofed and feature a kitchenette with a sink, toaster, and fridge.
Dining
The hotel has several on-site restaurants not affiliated with Accor: BBQ-K, Golden Lily Chinese, Katori Japanese, and Zero Mode Café. Whitehorse Chloe is a café-bistro serving breakfast and coffee. The hotel building also offers a coffee house and a snack bar.
Leisure
The rooftop has a heated swimming pool open all year, with views of Melbourne's CBD. It includes a shallow end, sun loungers, and pool towels. There is an outdoor entertainment deck with BBQs and seating. The lower ground floor has a gym with state-of-the-art equipment.
Location
The Chen is in Box Hill, with tram stops right in front and Box Hill train station a 5-minute walk away. Box Hill Central shopping mall is also a short walk, with many Asian restaurants, cafes, and shops. The hotel is 29 km from Melbourne Airport and about 30 minutes by train to the CBD.
Services
Services include a 24-hour front desk, concierge, express check-in/check-out, luggage storage, tour desk, laundry, dry cleaning, and car hire. Secure parking is available for guests (fee applies, limited spots). The hotel has facilities for disabled guests, family rooms, and 24-hour security with CCTV and key card access.
“My stay found the location quite convenient, especially with the tram line just outside and Box Hill Central a short walk away. The rooftop pool, though, was the real highlight - the views are rather impressive. I appreciated the comfortable beds, though the parking situation needed a bit more clarity.”
